Female Banded Demoiselle

The Banded Demoiselle can be seen between late May and the end of August. It breeds at slow-flowing shallow river locations and can also be seen on canal margins and occasionally at larger still-water locations such as lakes. The body of the male is a metallic blue-green with a dark bluish band in each wing. The female has a dark metallic green body and a light greenish coloration to the wings. The species has a predominantly southern UK distribution which begins south and east of the Pennines. It can be found throughout Ireland.
