Club-tailed Dragonfly (Gomphus Vulgatissimus)

The Club-tailed dragonfly can be seen between mid May and early July. The male has a dull greyish-green striped black abdomen with yellow spotted sides and a dull green thorax. The female has a yellow thorax and yellow striped black abdomen. Both sexes have dull green eyes. This dragonfly breeds in the slow-flowing shallow margins of rivers and on rare occasions will also utilize static ponds and lakes. Its distribution is confined to seven river systems, and their tributaries, in southern England and in mid, south and east Wales.
