Common Blue Damselfly (Enallagma cyathigerum)

The Common Blue damselfly can be seen from late May to late September.

Males are largely blue with black club shaped markings down the abdomen. Females have more black on the abdomen and there is also a light green variety with the black abdomen. This damselfly breeds in ponds, lakes, canals and slow-moving shallow rivers and streams. It does not usually inhabit small ponds. The species is distributed throughout the British Isles.
