Occasionally it will be found near shallow slow-flowing streams. It prefers locations with dense marginal vegetation. The male has a dark metallic green to greenish-brown body with blue coloration in the first two abdominal segments and the posterior abdominal segments. The eyes are blue. The female has a wholly green upper abdomen and beige sides. The species can be found throughout the British Isles.
