The towpath and overgrown canal

The nature reserve is managed by British Waterways and can be found at SJ25141469 where the entrance is located on the north side of the B4392, immediately opposite the entrance to the British Waterways office and picnic site at Burgedin Locks (SJ25261474), and 1km south west of Arddleen. You can park in the lay-by near the entrance to the BW office or at the Wern Clay Pits Nature Reserve (SJ25171413) and walk back to Burgedin Locks along the Montgomeryshire Canal, then cross the road.

The towpath at this nature reserve is infrequently cleared of vegetation  during the Summer and can be inaccessible for most of the time.

Approximately 1.5 km of the course of the disused canal can be followed.

The 1987/88 Montgomery Canal Ecological Survey identified the following species at this nature reserve: White-legged damselfly, Red-eyed damselfly, Azure damselfly, Common Blue damselfly, Large red damselfly, Blue-tailed damselfly, Banded Demoiselle, Beautiful Demoiselle, Southern Hawker, Brown Hawker, Four-spotted chaser and the Common Darter.

No surveys of this reserve have been carried out since 1988.
