30 April 2007

All of the main species of damselfly normally seen on the Montgomeryshire Canal are now visible. At Four Crosses tonight there was one solitary male Blue-Tailed, one female Red-Eyed, male and female Azure and male and female Large Red. The Azure and Large Red are seen in fairly large numbers in isolated groups or as individuals. It is very unusual to see all these species present in April and this is no doubt due to the record breaking temperatures we have seen this month. Photos taken tonight can be seen below, click all images to enlarge.
