The Wern Clay Pits Nature Reserve is located at SJ25171413. It can be accessed from the B4392 Arddleen to Guilsfield road by taking the first left turn south west of Arddleen (if approaching from the north), cross over the Montgomeryshire Canal on a humpback bridge then take the first turn right immediately after the bridge, keep straight on, avoiding a left turn, and just before the next humpback bridge over the canal there is an entrance on your left to the reserve. There is ample car parking here as well as picnic tables on the canal and reserve.  The reserve consists of a number of pools formed from former clay extraction pits with islands of vegetation between. There are board walks, bridges and observation platforms around the reserve which give easy access.

The 1987/88 Montgomery Canal Ecological Survey identified the following species at this nature reserve: White-legged damselfly, Red-eyed damselfly, Azure Damselfly, Common Blue damselfly, Blue-tailed damselfly, Brown Hawker, Club-tailed dragonfly.

No surveys have been carried out at this reserve since 1988 and regular visits are programmed for 2004.
